Girl Guides SA Board has been required to make a decision on our cork recycling program and as of the end of February 2011 Girl Guides SA will be ceasing the cork recycling program.

Girl Guides South Australia is a volunteer led organisation which relies heavily on the generous spirit of others to assist us with executing our various programs. Currently we have had two regular volunteers that have consistently given their time assisting with the cork operations since we commenced 12 years ago.  Our volunteers have done a wonderful job in establishing and developing the cork recycling program, however due to personal commitments they will be retiring from their cork recycling volunteer roles.

Girl Guides SA has been advertising and investigating many avenues to recruit volunteer replacements, however with no success. We have been searching for other places that we could advise you of so you could continue to drop your corks off to in South Australia and have not been successful in finding a solution.

The support we have received over the years for our cork recycling program has allowed our organisation to collect over 172, 000 kg of cork.  This effort has assisted Girl Guides to raise much needed money for our programming, events and activities we provide for our girls. However, most importantly it helped the environment and the cork industry by not needing to cut down as many trees, which we are all thankful for.

To finish off our recycling program Girl Guides South Australia will be accepting corks up to the end of February 2011 at Guide House, 63 Beulah Road, Norwood 5067.  After this time we will not be in a position to accept corks anymore.

We would like to thank everyone for the support you have given to our cork recycling project and we apologise for any inconvenience the ceasing of cork collection may cause.
