Diversity in Guiding
“Guiding offers a unique opportunity for cultural differences to be explored in a way that leads to greater understanding”. Baden Powell, Chief Scout of the World.
Guiding reaches 10 million girls all over the world. Girl Guides South Australia is part of a wonderfully diverse, global multi-cultural network.
Girl Guides work to appreciate the culture and the history of our neighbours, and Guides seek to understand and accept the practices, beliefs, and customs of our global community.
We celebrate a number of events which promote inclusivity including:
- World Thinking Day in February, a day to reflect on Guiding and honour Girl Guides in other countries
- Harmony Day in March, an opportunity to celebrate harmony despite differences
- JOTI in September, an international Jamboree on the Internet; and
- encourage Girl Guides to connect with people at training and conference events,
including links through WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts).
Guides welcomes girls from all cultures.
