GTS Dolphin

GTS Dolphin is Girl Guides SA's beachfront accommodation, perfect for canoeing, sailing, walking, exploring and camping indoors!

This sheltered stretch of the Port River offers a beautiful setting for a camp, with the sand at your doorstep, boats passing you by, and if you're lucky, the Port River dolphins to wish you a good morning!

Water Activities

Swimming

Go for a dip in the Port River, or hike to the nearby Largs Bay beach for a swim.

Fishing

There is excellent fishing on Snowden Beach - you could catch mulloway, bream, mullet, trout or whiting! (Bring your own fishing gear)

Dolphin Watching

The Port River is home to a number of dolphins! Spend some time lazing by the water, keeping a keen eye out for any visitors. You might also like to use the chance to do a Port River Dolphin Cruise!

Kayaks

With a variety of kayaks avaliable for hire, Dolphin is an excellent starting point for half and full day trips. Exciting destinations include:

Garden Island and Torrens Island

St Kilda

Port Adelaide and West Lakes

the Mangroves

Sailing*

Two sailing boats are available for hire with full rigging for sailing the Port River.

Rafting*

Design, build, then paddle (or even race!) your own raft. Everything you need to construct your very own craft is available at Dolphin!

Rowing*

The sailing boats can also be used without the rigging, for rowing, which is ideal for younger children and those with disabilities.

*Boating hire is available to qualified and experienced boating instructors. For insurance and safety purposes, we cannot hire equiptment to groups without the requisite qualified leaders. The following instructors may conduct boating training courses at Dolphin:

* Girl Guides South Australia Leaders with Boating or Canoeing qualifications

* Scout Association Leaders with Boating Charge Certificates

*Teachers and Leaders with instructor status or equivalent from the Australian Canoe Federation or the Australia Yachting Federation.

If you believe you are qualified to conduct a canoeing or kayaking session from Dolphin, but your qualification is not listed above, please contact our Property Manager.

GTS Dolphin is within walking range of historical Port Adelaide, and so makes the perfect base for groups to take excursions to:

not far from bus and train services to the city and Port Adelaide

Facilities

The main area is either airconditioned or heated (which ever may be required!)

Sleeping

GTS Dolphin sleeps up to 49.

The downstairs dormitory has 8 double bunks (16 beds) and the upstairs dormitory has 9 double bunks and 3 single beds (in a separate room). There are also two smaller rooms for adults, with two sets of bunks in each room.

Protective fitted sheets are provided, but you must bring your own linen, blankets and pillows.

Kitchen and Dining

The kitchen is fully equipped for groups of up to 60 to self-cater. The kitchen has been entirely renovated and refitted in 2007, and there is also a gas barbeque for outdoors cooking.

There is a large open area used for dining with trestle tables and chairs available.

 Toilets, Showers and Laundry

There are 5 toilets and 5 showers in separate female, male and disabled areas, with sufficient hot water for 60 people.

There is also a washing machine, dryer and laundry trough.

Activities

The large open area can be used for indoor games, or use the trestle tables and chairs for craft, meetings and more! 

There is also a separate meeting area upstairs with a TV and DVD.

Giant games are also available for hire.

 Cost
