International

Every Girl Guide in South Australia is a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). There are over 10 million members in more than 144 countries, who all live by the Guiding spirit.

There are so many opportunities to be involved with Guides in other countries. You might like to send postcards to a Unit overseas for Thinking Day, apply for an international postcard, or even travel overseas to visit Guides in other countries as an older Guide.

Girl Guides have a lot to travel for. Here is some information which might be useful for setting goals and planning international travel.

For further information about international Guiding, see Guides Australia

Planning an Overseas Trip

If you or a member of your Unit is planning a trip overseas, please contact your International Co-ordinator for a WAGGGS Introduction Card form. This form needs to be sent to Guide House. The introduction card will be sent to you once the form has been received and processed by Guide House.

If you are planning to take members of your Unit overseas you must contact the International Co-ordinator before you start making any arrangements. This is very important as any such trip has to go through the International Manager.

Anyone looking to attend an International event or wishing to be informed of upcoming international events is advised to contact the International Co-ordinator.

Your details will be placed on a "Ready to Go-list" so you will be one of the first to find out about International events. Notice for some events have a very short lead time so can't be advertised in Magpie.

Post Box (Penfriends)

Linking Girls, Adults and Units with penfriends around the World

It's rather wonderful, I think,
When friends are made by pen and ink.

A piece of paper, blue and white.
Someone decides that she will write,

To someone she has never seen,
Who lives where she has never been.

A pen becomes a magic wand,
When strangers start to correspond.

It's truly beautiful, I think,
The friendship sprung from pen and ink.
