FROM OCTOBER MAGPIE
GIRLS ON TRACK PROGRAM
As the final term of the year is fast approaching, I thought I would update members on the Girls on Track Program.
We currently are running eight programs—one in Whyalla, two in the Port Adelaide Enfield Council Area, two in the Onkaparinga Council Area and three in the City of Playford. A total of 120 girls in programs each term.
This Term we have had a great success in getting girls to join Guides—two in Whyalla, two in the Port Adelaide Area, two at Elizabeth and nine in the Salisbury area. We hope the girls will continue their Guiding Experiences and that the sponsorship from the Smith Family continues.
These programs are run for girls from vulnerable families, and we are working in partnership with the Smith Family, Soroptimists International and the VIEW clubs. We have over 150 outside people collecting soaps, shampoo‘s etc and the Melrose Park Sewing group of women are making gift bags with contents as gifts for the girls at celebration week. We are continually amazed at the outside support for these programs and without it they would not continue.
I would also like to thank the Burnside Trefoil members who assist with the bagging of toothbrushes etc once a term which is a fantastic help.
Thank you to all members who continue to support the programs as well—it is fun arriving at work to find bags of goodies on my desk! Please leave your name with the goodies, so I can thank you personally.
