Douglas Scrub 

Douglas Scrub is owned by Girl Guides South Australia and has been operational as an outdoor education and camping centre since 1979. Douglas Scrub has indoor accommodation in two buildings and has lots of campsites suitable for a variety of sized camps and groups. 

Douglas Scrub is popular with many school groups for the educational programs that can be run whilst on camp.   

The large indoor facilities are popular with many groups due to the versatility of the spaces.

Camping in tents with groups is always lots of fun at Douglas Scrub because of all the possibilities.

Services and Facilities

Douglas Scrub is able to accommodate schools, Girl Guides, Scouts and the like in a variety of formats:

  • Indoor accommodation for 66 people in two buildings
  • Unlimited outdoor accommodation across a variety of sites
  • Powered sites for those camping who would like electricity
  • Fully equipped commercial kitchen including dishwasher
  • Heating for chilly winter nights
  • Barbecue facilities located throughout the property
  • Large indoor areas suitable for dining, meeting, indoor games and activities
  • Outdoor cooking facilities in two locations including sink and fridge
  • Large ablution blocks
  • Wet weather shed
  • Trefoil Picnic Shelter 


Activities at Douglas Scrub:

  • Outdoor Cooking - fire troughs are available as well as the campfire circles
  • Hiking - there are good hiking trails nearby and throughout the campsite
  • Heritage Scrub area - look out for native animals and view the beautiful native flowers
  • Bouldering Wall - horizontal climbing wall suitable for all ages
  • Sports - volleyball net is permanently set up, just bring a ball.  And all the large open spaces are perfect for ball games of all sorts, footy, soccer and cricket for example
  • Environmental Education - Douglas Scrub has natural creeks,a butterfly garden and wetland areas that are good for learning about the world around us
  • There is an outdoor stage with power, so host your own show
  • City in the Trees - build your own treehouse and sleep in it
  • High Ropes Challenge Course - incorporating a rock wall and lots of challenging elements. Bookings through Wilderness Escape Outdoor Adventure.
  • Low Ropes Course - for those not keen on heights this is a fun alternative where you will still be challenged. Bookings through Wilderness Escape.
  • Adventure Course - this is a basic course which will encourage people to challenge themselves and is also good for team building

Douglas Scrub Fees 

There are fees for various groups who use Douglas Scrub depending on whether you are using indoor accommodation or camping.  Please refer to the fee sheet applicable to your situation.
